| Soaring Bald Eagle 55" wingspan / Ash This life-size eagle carving is one of two carvings I did for my client's new log home. The other large carving in his home is an airy, an eagles nest, in which two eaglets wait for their parent to deliver the cut throat trout clutched in it's talons. Both of these carvings are 15 feet above the main floor at the top of tree trunks supporting the second level loft. I have never carved anything with such a dense and complex grain. Ash is a very hard wood (they make baseball bats out of ash!) and because the hard grain was compounded with knots and limb crotches, it presented quite a physical challenge. I am very proud of the way this set of carvings turned out. |
